{"id":3439,"date":"2011-12-05T21:10:03","date_gmt":"2011-12-05T21:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ohrstromblog.com\/spsarchives\/?p=3439"},"modified":"2012-04-06T19:26:49","modified_gmt":"2012-04-07T00:26:49","slug":"one-of-the-sleighs-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ohrstromblog.com\/spsarchives\/archives\/3439","title":{"rendered":"One of the sleighs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This photograph shows a sleigh filled with students with the note: \u201cOne of the sleighs for the ride on Washington\u2019s birthday.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The March 18, 1890 edition of the\u00a0<em>Horae Scholasticae<\/em>\u00a0has this description of the day:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Saturday, February the twenty-second, was cold and clear, and the sleighing, about which there had been no little doubt, was, thanks to the recent fall of snow, quite good.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as Chapel was over, the large sleighs and cutters, which were to carry a large party to Shaker Village, drew up in front of the Study, and about one hundred and twenty-five fellows took their places and set out on their long ride.\u00a0 They arrived at Canterbury about noon, and, after buying the usual amount of candy, seeing the barns, stock, and other objects of interest, had an excellent dinner, and then started for Penacook to attend the fair given by Mr. Valpey\u2019s parish.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This sleigh has the words \u201cEagle Stable\u201d and \u201cBrown and Abbott\u201d painted on the side.
