Meet Our ASP Intern!

What is the best way to get to know a librarian, or an intern? By getting them to talk about books, of course! This month, we talked to Ms. Jasmin Buteau, our Library Intern for ASP and a brand new SPS science faculty member starting this fall.

We asked Ms. Buteau…

What was your first library?

“The first library I have worked at is where I currently work, which is the Ohrstrom Library at St. Paul’s School! I have always loved spending time in libraries. The coolest library I have ever been to is the Munich Municipal Law Library in Munich, Germany. It looks like it belongs at Hogwarts!”

Who are your top five favorite authors?

“Most recently I have enjoyed reading books by Emma Straub, Hope Jahren, Bonnie Garmus, Ashley C. Ford, and Emily Henry.”

What are your three “desert island” books?

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub

We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman

What is the last book that made you laugh or cry or both?

The Other Family Doctor: A Veterinarian Explores What Animals Can Teach Us About Love, Life, and Mortality by Dr. Karen Fine

If you could time travel, when and where would you go?

“Kruger National Park in South Africa during the 1920’s when biodiversity was at its peak.”

What is your favorite room in Ohrstrom Library?

“Like others, I love the ambiance and natural light in the Baker Reading Room.”

What was your favorite subject/class in school?

“Any of the life sciences! I have been an advanced biology teacher for the last four years and will be joining the science department at St. Paul’s School this fall. Browsing the extensive collection of science books at Ohrstrom Library has been a plus!”

What do you like about being a librarian at SPS during ASP?

“The entire library team is so kind and knowledgeable. I love getting to know the ASP students and learning about their experiences in the program.”
