Meet Our ASP Library Assistant!

What is the best way to get to know a librarian? By getting them to talk about books, of course! This month, we talked to Ms. Jo Brooks, year-round member of the SPS community and this year’s Library Assistant for ASP.

We asked Ms. Brooks…

What was your first library?

“The first one I remember going to regularly, with my own card, was our town library in Ashland, OH – I would ride my bike there all summer long!”

Who are your top five favorite authors?

Deborah Harkness

Chris Bohjalian

Christopher Paolini

Maggie Stiefvater

George R. R. Martin

…and a 6th that I just can’t leave out: J. R. R. Tolkien

…and maybe a 7th: N. K. Jemisin!  Obviously, I have a thing for authors with initials!!!!

What are your three “desert island” books?

“Do series count as one?!?!?! 😊  If so, then the All Souls trilogy, the Inheritance Cycle series, and The Raven Cycle series.  If not, then these individual books: Eragon, The Lord of the Rings, and Pachinko.”

What is the last book that made you laugh or cry or both?

“I don’t usually cry at books, but the one that was quite moving for me recently was Knife by Salman Rushdie.”

If you could time travel, when and where would you go?

“To the Tokugawa (Edo) Period in Japan.”

What is your favorite room in Ohrstrom Library?

“The Tower Room.”

What was your favorite subject/class in school?

“English!”

Why do you like being a librarian at SPS?

“I love books and working with high-school aged students as they become more and more familiar with all that a library has to offer!”
