Over the spring term, Ms. Pine’s Civil Rights class worked weekly in the archives on their assignment, “Curating an Exhibit: The 1960’s and Civil Rights”. For the project, the students were asked to research and reflect on SPS in the 1960’s and 1970’s. They split into six groups – Student Rebellion, Diverse Community, Chapel and Religion, Vietnam and the Draft, Coeducation, and the 1960’s at Other Boarding Schools – and chose primary sources from the archives that illustrated their ideas.
In the introduction to the exhibit, Nausicaa Chu ’26 writes: “In Civil Fights: How Students Catalyzed Institutional and Societal Change at SPS, we explored the impact that the 1960’s had on St. Paul’s. Through a variety of exhibits…we examined the complicated legacy that this critical time period left on our school. St. Paul’s School in the 1960’s teaches us far more than historical facts – it teaches us about our present-day institution too.”
Their exhibit can be seen on the third floor of Ohrstrom Library through the end of spring term. Come take a look and then congratulate these 5th and 6th Formers on a job well done: Emerson Bentley ’25, Nausicaa Chu ’26, Amelia Guest ’25, Peter Kelly ’25, David Kwon ’25, Jason Lee ’25, Ethan Maggio ’25, Parker Neilson ’25, Loulie Reyes ’25, Dylan Rodgers ’25, Linus Seruma ’25, and Sean Silverthorn ’26.
