Here at Ohrstrom, we are very fortunate to have a small group of Fifth and Sixth Formers as our Library Proctors. These Proctors are a great help to us – they shelve books, work on projects for the librarians and archivist, staff the front desk, and do rounds (you have probably seen them walking around with a clicker!). Our evenings are so much easier thanks to this fabulous Proctor team!

Working at the library has made our Proctors experts on all things Ohrstrom. We asked them…
What do you wish your fellow students knew about the library and its resources?

The Library is a great space
“You can quite easily book your own room in the library for both studying and holding meetings.” – Jaylan ’26
“When your teachers hold office hours in the library, take advantage of it!” – Harry ’26
The Library has tons of resources!
“The library is an awesome spot to come and get work done/socialize, but I think that it’s best trait is the resources that it has. There are books covering any topic, even world language books for practicing a new language! I wish more people would use the library’s huge numbers of books as ways to learn a new skill. For example, reading novels can be very helpful for developing writing skills. I also wish that more students knew about the library’s archives, as it is a very good way to learn about the history and tradition at SPS!” – Bo ’27
“I wish they knew how to access all of the amazing books and archives better, there is so much information here and I love going through the book sections and reading passages from such interesting texts. I feel that some students get overwhelmed with finding things but it is so simple and organized thanks to the librarians.” – Madeline ’27
“Something about the library that I wish more people knew about is the amount of resources to which one has access. There are of course books, big study rooms, and research support, but there are also projectors you can rent and 3D printers you can use. The library also has an archive department for anyone interested in researching the school’s past for school or personal projects. The library also has large music and movie collections.” – Luke ’27
Check out the Library of Things and MakerSpace!
“Before becoming a proctor, I had no idea of the variety of resources and things the library had to offer! I get really distracted when I’m studying in loud environments, and I love listening to music when working, especially in the library. So one of the things I always like to have and use in the library would be my noise cancelling headphones! But, when I do forget them, I get really frustrated, and luckily, the library has noise-canceling headphones for us to use! I also love the phone charging stations and the computer charges that they offer! The library is a great place and we’re SO lucky for all it has to offer!” – Hana ’27
“I wish people knew about the Makerspace and all the opportunities for creativity in the library like the 3D printer and the Cricut.” – Tess ’26
Ask the librarians!
“The librarians know everything there is to know about the library and no question is stupid to ask them. I know I, at first, was scared about asking where things were and would try to figure things out myself but always ask them about even small things like asking how to do a citation or asking how to use the printer. They are here to help and are happy to help anyone at any time!” – Dibora ’26
Next time you are in the Library, be sure to say hello to our Proctors and thank them for doing such a great job!
