This summer marks the 50th anniversary of Jaws, the movie that made all of us slightly afraid to go into the water. But did you know that a beloved SPS faculty member was an extra in the film? William Abbe, long-time art teacher at SPS from 1950 to 1981, heard that the director was looking for extras and promptly presented himself for consideration. He was chosen for the role of “tourist on the beach” and quickly mastered how to look terrified of what was in the water. “The director did a great job with us,” said Mr. Abbe in a Pelican article about his experience. “After a few days it was no problem to achieve an expression of horror.”
