October is American Archives Month, a time set aside to raise public awareness about the importance of historic documents and records. Archives preserve and maintain records of enduring value, providing firsthand information about the past and ensuring that future generations will have access to the historical record. At SPS, the archives are located on the lower level of Ohrstrom Library.
What can you do to celebrate American Archives Month?
First, be sure to visit the archives! Ms. Parsi, the school archivist, loves it when people stop by to ask her about the school’s long history.
Next, check out our latest exhibit, A Home Away From Home: The Dorms of St. Paul’s School, located on the upper level of Ohrstrom Library. The exhibit showcases the history of St. Paul’s fourteen dormitories, as well as gives a glimpse of a few vanished dorms and into the evolution of dorm room décor. While dorm life has changed quite a bit since 1856, one thing still holds true: starting and ending each day in the dorm, surrounded by friends and dormmates, makes a student’s house truly their home away from home.
Finally, how much do you know about St. Paul’s School? Test your knowledge with SPS Trivia! Swing by the library for your sheet, or print it out HERE. Answer as many questions as you can and return it to the main desk by October 24th. All entries will be entered to win one of three prizes!
