Gratitude

November’s Wellbeing Campaign was centered around gratitude. Practicing gratitude allows us to appreciate the positive in our lives, while fostering the desire to return that positivity to others. Research shows that focusing on gratitude has real health benefits, including releasing serotonin and dopamine, reducing anxiety and depression, and improving mood. Regularly practicing gratitude can even lead to lasting positive changes in your brain!

During November, the library offered multiple ways for the SPS community to express their gratitude, whether that was on a postcard, on our “thanks”giving turkey, or on our gratitude pumpkin. Thankfulness was expressed for family, friends, teachers, and pets; for the SPS community; for sports and the outdoors; for favorite music, art, and books; and for many other things that spark joy in our lives. As Margaret Cousins, educator and activist, once wrote: “Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary.”
