What is the best way to get to know a librarian? By getting them to talk about books, of course! This month, we talked to Ms. Jasmine Poliquit, this summer’s Library Assistant for ASP.
We asked Ms. Poliquit…
What was your first library?
“The library at my elementary school in Washington state. I was obsessed with all of Kevin Henkes books.”
Who are your top five favorite authors?
What are your three “desert island” books?
- Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
- Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World by Christian Cooper
- Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
What is the last book that made you laugh or cry or both?
“Il est grand temps de rallumer les etoiles [Chasing the Stars] by Virginie Grimaldi – a touching and endearing story about a mother and her daughters. I felt all the emotions reading this!”
If you could time travel, when and where would you go?
“1980’s Philippines to meet my mom when she was a young girl.”
What is your favorite room in Ohrstrom Library?
“Upper floor overlooking the Baker Reading Room.”
What was your favorite subject/class in school?
“Je suis francophile!”
Why do you like being a librarian at SPS?
“Libraries are vital community spaces! I’m proud to be a part of a place that provides access to information, knowledge, and learning for our students. There is also this inexplicably comforting feeling being surrounded by books.”
