Come by Ohrstrom Library to check out the latest archives exhibit, Awards & Medals of St. Paul’s School.
Each spring, the School gathers for the annual Awards Ceremony to honor the many achievements, performances, and contributions of students who have learned, as Rector Giles says, “to do hard things well”. The awards cover all aspects of life at SPS, from academics to athletics to community service. The recipients are celebrated and each walks away with a physical representation – whether it be a medal, book, or envelope – of their dedication and hard work.
This exhibit explores the meaning behind some of the School’s notable awards and medals. Who are they named after? What qualities do they represent? What goes into making a medal? Throughout the exhibit, you will find some of our most prestigious and oldest honors – the School Medal, the Gordon Medal, the Loomis Medal, the Benjamin Rush Toland Prize, and more. You will also learn about the creation of the new Form of 1971 Visionary Award medal and discover that SPS awards don’t end after graduation.
Taken in its entirety, the exhibit highlights that it is not about who has received the award, but what those awards tell us about what we value at St. Paul’s School – hard work, teamwork, character, and community.
