World Newsreels (4 countries) – Trial

By - Research & Instruction Librarian February 3rd, 2015

Motivation

Third form Hum. Student: “This NBC newsreel about Sputnik is from the U.S. Doesn’t the library have one from Russia that I could watch?”

Me: “uhhhhhhhhh”

And while not Russian, library vendor Alexander Street Press, did recently release a new collection of 1929-1966 historic newsreels. Which countries? U.S., a little Japan, some from France as well as some Dutch clips.

Want a look? Trial access (when on the SPS network) is available through Feb 20 here.

Comments?  Applications come to mind?  Should the library buy?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

New Research Guide: WWII Bibliographic Essay Project

By - Research & Instruction Librarian December 4th, 2012

New on the Library site is a research guide in support of the Humanities 5, WWII Bibliographic Essay Project.

Spotlight on:  The newspaper & newsreel tab.  Use these newsy digital collections purchased by the Library, to locate news of the War written/produced/published as the War was occurring.

Research guides gather together the most pertinent library resources for a specific project, from the larger (and ever-expanding) universe of Library sources/collections.

Please feel free to contact Ms. Sanborn (lsanborn at sps dot edu) for a research consultation and/or to discuss any of the items in this guide.
