A year of Research. You rocked it!

By - Research & Instruction Librarian May 31st, 2016

You rocked the research this year!

Check it out.

Over 10,000 visits were made to the top 3 research guides.

Libguides Admin Dashboard: Statistics Page 9-14-2105 to 5-27-2016.  Springshare. Web. May 27, 2016.

What library eCollections did you love?

  • Over 887 statistical charts retrieved using Statista.
  • Searched ArtStor 1,885 times.
  • Searched JSTOR 3,048 times.
  • Opened eBooks on the ebrary platform 6,835 times.

Collectively, you asked me more than 200 research questions, mostly via email (over 150), and also via Canvas, office hours in the Schoolhouse and in-person at the Library.

And finally, another year has gone by in which every SPS student has had a Ms. Sanborn research class (at least one!) during the school year.

I heart your research!

Your favorite Kanopy titles

By - Research & Instruction Librarian May 26th, 2016

In January 2016, the library bumped up its Kanopy educational video offerings from a few hundred to 26,000.

There have been 486 plays in those 5 months, totaling 8,021 minutes of viewing time.

What films have been most-watched in that time?

Email! Yaaaaassss!

By - Research & Instruction Librarian May 19th, 2016

Following a research class Wednesday, a teacher asked if any Hum. V students had emailed me yet.

My inbox reveals 33 research emails from Hum. V students this past week (can’t wait for the next two weeks!).

Curious how that compares to the rest of the year?  Since September, 137 research queries have arrived in my inbox mostly from SPS students, a few from SPS faculty, 2 from SPS alums and 1 from a student at Andover.  🙂

Looking forward to your end-of-year research questions over the upcoming concluding weeks of school.  I heart your research!  Ms. Sanborn

Encounters

By - Research & Instruction Librarian May 17th, 2016

Explicating during the last 2 weeks of term?

The Oxford Biblical Studies Online offers side-by-side commentary and Biblical text. (Does it up the database’s credibility to know it was accessed 1,200 times by last term’s 40+ Encounters students?).

To delve further into the scholarly conversation consider JSTOR and the library’s collections of academic eBooks.  More details and search strategies in the Encounters research guide (accessed 1,600 times by last term’s 40+ Encounters students).

Research questions?  Do let me know!  🙂

Dear Hum. V,

By - Research & Instruction Librarian May 12th, 2016

Great to see you this week!

I loved your mind-mapping of the ‘Scholarly Conversation.’

When you’re ready to leap into the academic literature, here’s the page in the research guide (screenshot below) listing four databases providing just that.

As always, please be in touch with any research-y queries!  I love hearing from you. 🙂
